CatholicCare is the social services agency of the Catholic Diocese of Wollongong. It offers care, support, assistance and education in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Macarthur and Southern Highlands regions of NSW. CatholicCare services include Counselling, Foster Care, Family Support Workshops, Ageing and Disability Programs and Support, Marriage Education and Children's Contact.
CatholicCare has a vision for more individuals and families to have safe, fulfilled and connected lives, in just and supportive communities. A core strategy to achieve this vision is to strengthen its organisational capacity to provide existing and new services.
The Exec Manager for Business Support, at CatholicCare, remarked, "Our ICT infrastructure was ageing. We needed our systems running at peak performance to support our plans for growth."
CatholicCare's ICT Coordinator agreed that ageing infrastructure was at the heart of the matter.
"The systems were running with increasing instability, and downtime not infrequent."
CatholicCare was unable to leverage the productiveness and new capabilities from the latest versions of business critical software, with its older hardware not compatible.
Fortunately, Novo IT's Managed Services Team had an insider view on CatholicCare's ICT systems, having partnered with the organisation for several years. Their advice was clear: it was time for an update.
Novo IT Solution
Given the green light, Novo IT's Managed Services Team produced documentation on existing server performance. It provided a map of application dependencies to assess how well existing applications and infrastructure were working together.
Following testing, and further consulting with CatholicCare key stakeholders, Novo IT's Consulting Team designed a new, high availability infrastructure to optimise capacity and business continuity. The Professional Services Team stepped in to install the new network components.
CatholicCare's ICT Coordinator stated: "The phased implementation was seamless. It allowed for application testing and user training along the way."
CatholicCare's ageing physical infrastructure was migrated to a virtualised solution, with powerful new host servers. An HP iSCSI Storage Area Network (SAN) improves data availability and expandable storage. A new Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) unit prevents data loss from unexpected power disruption.
Novo IT's Managed Services Team was engaged to provide ongoing management of the new infrastructure.
With a robust and reliable server platform, a new user interface and software upgrades, staff at CatholicCare can enjoy a far more satisfying and productive working environment. This extends to staff across the region, who access the system remotely.
