Operationally Efficient, Externally Accessible
Port Kembla Coal Terminal is a coal exporting facility 70km south of Sydney. It serves two of the nation's richest coal reserves, exporting high quality coking and steaming coal around the world. PKCT cooperates on behalf of a consortium of coal producers, whose chief interests are fast, reliable and cost-effective handling at the port.
PKCT has a workforce of approximately 120 including engineering tradespeople (electrical and mechanical), machine operators, management and administrative staff. PKCT is a 24 hour operation with parts of the terminal operating continuously.
PKCT was looking for an online solution to enhance communications to customers, shareholders and key external parties to its systems and information. PKCT required a system that interfaced with their existing systems while improving operational efficiencies.
Novo IT Solution
Using the Microsoft SharePoint platform, which can be hosted on premise or on hosted in the cloud via infrastructure as a service, Novo IT developed a Customer Extranet that enabled the delivery of real-time information, in an accessible format, through secured user access.
The Extranet integrates with PKCT's operational system in the backend to provide a real-time feed of data through to customers. In addition, reports can be run from the Extranet to produce downloadable PDF documents for customers to review stockpiling, ship loading and other operational data.
PKCT were provided with a site that offered secure access for shareholders, customers and external parties delivering real-time information and reports. Requirements of staff to distribute information externally became easier and access to information already housed in existing systems such as SCITEC and Oracle SQL had been maintained.
